BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY
The surgeon removes excess skin, fat and mammary tissue, relocating the areaola (the coloured area around the nipple) and the nipple itself into their new position. In order to achieve the desired shape, the surgeon makes anchor-like incisions, creating a vertical line downwards from the areola and the horizontal line beneath breast. The areola, its blood vessels and nerves are repositioned together in most cases. However, in significant reductions, it is usually necessary to separate the areola totally and relocate it. The size of the areola can also be reduced, if necessary. The plastic surgeon will make the decision as to the most appropriate technique to use.

Breast reduction can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. GETTING BACK TO NORMAL BREAST REDUCTION
After 1-2 weeks, the patient can return to everyday activities, avoiding strong physical efforts. It may take 6 months to a year for breasts to settle into their new shape, but swelling and bruising will disappear in the first few weeks. Back to work (if not too strenuous) and social activities: about 2 weeks.
